SESSION ON PCPNDT ACT

Dr Subhash Babu P, who is an Associate Professor from MIMS, Mandya delivered a talk on Pre Conceptional and Pre Natal Diagnostics technique Act to the ASHA workers of Malavalli Taluk on 15th of Feb. Over here the Doctor spoke about the various rules and regulations under the Act and what field work is expected from an ASHA worker. The session ended with Q&A where the ASHA's voiced out their opinions.

WORLD CANCER DAY – 2023

On the occasion of World Cancer Day which is held on 4th February every year, the department of community medicine along with nursing and 1st year UG students of MIMS, Mandya organized a rally consisting of at least 400 participants through the city of Mandya, through which an awareness towards cancer was transmitted to the general citizens of Mandya.      

 

 

The rally was flagged of by the getting a go ahead sign from the Director, Principal, Hod and staffs of various departments of MIMS college.

 

The rally had gone through the Bangalore- Mysuru highway of Mandya as many citizen will be attracted here, The gathering screamed pro-cancer messages at the KSRTC bus stop.

PG ORIENTATION PROGRAM AND SYNOPSIS PREPARATION

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE

Workshop on Post Graduation orientation and Synopsis writing was organized on 6th and 7th January 2023 by the department of Community Medicine,MIMS Mandya for the 1st year post graduate students of batch 2022.

 

Venue: 2nd floor exam hall, MIMS Mandya, Karnataka 


Day 1:-

The workshop started as the MC introduced Dr Shanmukhappa who oriented the new post graduate students regarding the academic rules and regulations which they have to follow for the next 3 years such the objectives and components of being a PG students and criteria's to be met to be eligible to write the examination  


Next Dr Kathiresan was introduced to talk about how to give an effective presentation during their seminars these included from  the way to speak to the steps to be followed while making a ppt.


Later Dr Shashikala took the stage while giving a talk on how to present an effective journal club. Which started from how to select a good article for your JC with what objectives a person should have in mind while selecting his/her article from a journal and various tricks to be applied while presenting one.


Then the inauguration function began with the welcome speech by Dr Subhash P Babu, Associate Professor of MIMS, Mandya followed by watering of plants, an eco-friendly initiative which was done jointly by Dr.Tamanna, Principal, MIMS, Mandya, Dr Shanmukhappa, Academic Registrar, MIMS, Mandya, Dr Harish B R, Professor and Head of Department of community medicine, MIMS, Mandya, Dr Vinay M, Associate professor, department of community medicine, MIMS, Mandya, and Dr Shashikala, Associate professor, department of physiology, MIMS, Mandya, . The dignitaries on the dias also shared their vast experiences in the field of research. Finally, the inauguration ended with the delivery of vote of thanks by Dr. Manjunath, Assistant Professor, MIMS, Mandya.







This was followed by taking a group photo of all the participants.



Next the sessions continued with Dr Trineshgowda taking the stage with him enlightening the young minds on how to take a class to their students through a padagogy session




The afternoon session started as Dr Chaithra how to select a study and how to frame the objectives for it


From there Dr Mythili took-over by guiding the students on how to write and introduction for their synopsis


And at last Dr Neha spoke about the study design and the study period giving to the students to finish their thesis work, with this 1st day of the workshop came to an end.


Day 2:-

The day started with Dr Snehalata explaining the students on how to calculate a sample size and the various sampling methods used for their thesis 



Later Dr Poornima S took a session on inclusion and exclusion criteria's and the various mistakes what a student does while working on his/her synopsis


Next Dr Archana spoke about on how data is collected for their particular topics


This was followed by session on analysis by Dr Sudhir where he mentioned the various applications and appropriate techniques to be used in their synopsis


Then Dr Siddalingaappa Hugar took a session on how to write a review of literature, the tricks to be followed while writing it and the common mistakes the students make in this


The afternoon session started with Dr Sheetal enlightening the students on how to write the references in Vancouver style 


After that Dr Manuja spoke about what has to mentioned in an informed consent and how an consent should be taken and also regarding the ethical issues dealt with while doing a research


Finally Dr Murali Mohan Reddy, CEO of co-guide spoke about his webpage and how it can help to guide a student regarding their research work.      


And finally the workshop ended with the valedictory ceremony

Dr Siddalingappa Hugar from department of community medicine, MIMS, Mandya had visited ROHCS ICMR Institute Bangalore to give a talk on International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10)

Dr Siddalingappa Hugar who an Assistant Professor in dept of community medicine in MIMS, Mandya had visited Sanjo Hospital on 2/8/22 in view of to update the staffs of Sanjo Hospital on National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP). The talk lasted an hour where the doctor explained all the recent guidelines in detail, and it ended with a small Q&A session where the staff of Sanjo Hospital could clear out there doubts regarding this topic.

Workshop on Research Methodology was organized on 7th and 8th June 2022 by the department of Community Medicine,MIMS Mandya for the 1st year post graduate students of the college.

 

Venue: 2nd floor exam hall, MIMS Mandya, Karnataka 

DAY 1

The programme started with the Introduction on Research Methodology by our beloved Head of the Department and Professor, Dr. Harish B.R, who provoked insights into the research for the Post Graduate students.






The session continued with the informative session on Descriptive and Cross sectional Study design by Dr. Jhanavi Rajagopal, Assistant Professor.

Then the inauguration function began with the welcome speech by Dr Pornima, Assistant Professor followed by watering of plants, an eco-friendly initiative which was done jointly by Dr.Harish M.R, Director, MIMS, Mandya; Dr.Sridhar, Medical Superindent of MIMS, Mandya; Dr.Tamanna, Principal, MIMS, Mandya, Ms Venkatalakshmi CAO. The dignitaries on the dias also shared their vast experiences in the field of research. Finally, the inauguration ended with the delivery of vote of thanks by Dr.Manjunath, Assistant Professor.

 


This was followed by taking a group photo of all the participants.




Next, enlightening classes on research methodology were taken by our Mentors of Community Medicine Lecture 2- Feasibility of Longitudnal, Case control and Cohort studies–Dr Subash, Associate Professor;

Lecture 3 – Sample size and sampling by Dr Sudhir, Assistant Professor

Hands on training by Dr Siddalingappa Hugar, Assistant Professor

Lecture 4- Types of data, presentation of data and Descriptive statistics by Mr Nagaraja Goud, Statistician /Assistant Professor.

DAY 2

The day began with Dr   Siddalingappa Hugar on Hypothesis testing and tests of significance.

Subsequent classes were taken by

Lecture 2- Correlation and Regression by Dr Pornima, Assistant Professor


Lecture 3- MS excel data entry by Mr Nagaraja Goud, Statistician /Assistant Professor


Lecture 4- Validation of diagnostic tests by Dr. Subash,Associate Professor


Lecture 5- Synopsis writing and ethical issues in Research by Dr Vinay,Associate Professor


Lecture 6 Internet and softwares in Research Dr Siddalingappa Hugar, Assistant professor


 

The day ended with distribution of certificates by our director,Dr Harish M.R; Dr Harish B.R HOD and Proffesor, Dr Vinay, Dr Siddalingappa Hugar and Mr Nagaraja Goud.

World No Tobacco Day- 2022

                                           World No Tobacco Day Programme - 2022

World No Tobacco Day was organized on 31st of May 2022 with the collaboration of members from District Health and Family Welfare office, and doctors from MIMS, Mandya  

Theme: Tobacco: Poisoning Our Planet 

Venue: P.E.S degree college, M.C road, Subashnagar, Mandya Taluk, Mandya, Karnataka 

The programme started with the NCC members of the college, health workers from various PHC's around Mandya, members from the District Health Office(Mandya), and various volunteers joined hands to spread awareness about harmful effects of tobacco on our environment through a rally





Later members from the dais gave a hearty speech to the students of P.E.S degree college  

Mrs Nalini Kumari A M who spoke about the harmful effects of tobacco and how it was normalized in the family and how this normalization has caused dreadful effect in the family.

Then, Dr Dananjay, District Health Officer of Mandya District spoke about the harmful effects which is seen in the community due to consumption of tobacco.




Later, Dr Siddalingappa Hugar (Dept of Community Medicine,MIMS) educated the students about the disastrous effects which tobacco causes on the human body, and then it was followed up by Dr Shashank (Dept of Psychiatry,) who spoke about the psychological aspect of using tobacco and the challenges faced by the people which trying to quit using tobacco.



The programme was conducted with the motive of educating the younger generation of society since they are the future of this country and the members of the dais have conveyed the message in a fruitful way.
