Workshop on Research Methodology was organized on 7th and 8th June 2022 by the department of Community Medicine,MIMS Mandya for the 1st year post graduate students of the college.

 

Venue: 2nd floor exam hall, MIMS Mandya, Karnataka 

DAY 1

The programme started with the Introduction on Research Methodology by our beloved Head of the Department and Professor, Dr. Harish B.R, who provoked insights into the research for the Post Graduate students.






The session continued with the informative session on Descriptive and Cross sectional Study design by Dr. Jhanavi Rajagopal, Assistant Professor.

Then the inauguration function began with the welcome speech by Dr Pornima, Assistant Professor followed by watering of plants, an eco-friendly initiative which was done jointly by Dr.Harish M.R, Director, MIMS, Mandya; Dr.Sridhar, Medical Superindent of MIMS, Mandya; Dr.Tamanna, Principal, MIMS, Mandya, Ms Venkatalakshmi CAO. The dignitaries on the dias also shared their vast experiences in the field of research. Finally, the inauguration ended with the delivery of vote of thanks by Dr.Manjunath, Assistant Professor.

 


This was followed by taking a group photo of all the participants.




Next, enlightening classes on research methodology were taken by our Mentors of Community Medicine Lecture 2- Feasibility of Longitudnal, Case control and Cohort studies–Dr Subash, Associate Professor;

Lecture 3 – Sample size and sampling by Dr Sudhir, Assistant Professor

Hands on training by Dr Siddalingappa Hugar, Assistant Professor

Lecture 4- Types of data, presentation of data and Descriptive statistics by Mr Nagaraja Goud, Statistician /Assistant Professor.

DAY 2

The day began with Dr   Siddalingappa Hugar on Hypothesis testing and tests of significance.

Subsequent classes were taken by

Lecture 2- Correlation and Regression by Dr Pornima, Assistant Professor


Lecture 3- MS excel data entry by Mr Nagaraja Goud, Statistician /Assistant Professor


Lecture 4- Validation of diagnostic tests by Dr. Subash,Associate Professor


Lecture 5- Synopsis writing and ethical issues in Research by Dr Vinay,Associate Professor


Lecture 6 Internet and softwares in Research Dr Siddalingappa Hugar, Assistant professor


 

The day ended with distribution of certificates by our director,Dr Harish M.R; Dr Harish B.R HOD and Proffesor, Dr Vinay, Dr Siddalingappa Hugar and Mr Nagaraja Goud.

World No Tobacco Day- 2022

                                           World No Tobacco Day Programme - 2022

World No Tobacco Day was organized on 31st of May 2022 with the collaboration of members from District Health and Family Welfare office, and doctors from MIMS, Mandya  

Theme: Tobacco: Poisoning Our Planet 

Venue: P.E.S degree college, M.C road, Subashnagar, Mandya Taluk, Mandya, Karnataka 

The programme started with the NCC members of the college, health workers from various PHC's around Mandya, members from the District Health Office(Mandya), and various volunteers joined hands to spread awareness about harmful effects of tobacco on our environment through a rally





Later members from the dais gave a hearty speech to the students of P.E.S degree college  

Mrs Nalini Kumari A M who spoke about the harmful effects of tobacco and how it was normalized in the family and how this normalization has caused dreadful effect in the family.

Then, Dr Dananjay, District Health Officer of Mandya District spoke about the harmful effects which is seen in the community due to consumption of tobacco.




Later, Dr Siddalingappa Hugar (Dept of Community Medicine,MIMS) educated the students about the disastrous effects which tobacco causes on the human body, and then it was followed up by Dr Shashank (Dept of Psychiatry,) who spoke about the psychological aspect of using tobacco and the challenges faced by the people which trying to quit using tobacco.



The programme was conducted with the motive of educating the younger generation of society since they are the future of this country and the members of the dais have conveyed the message in a fruitful way.

Typhoid vaccination programme - 2022

Typhoid Vaccination Programme – 2022

 

Typhoid vaccination programme was organized by Department of community medicine, Mandya Institute of medical sciences, Mandya

Venue: Mandya District Co-operative Milk Producers Societies Union Limited (MANMUL) Gejjalagere, Maddur Taluk, Mandya District.

This programme was conducted for 3 days from 3rd February to 5th February 2022.


Team of community medicine staff, post graduate students, interns and nursing staff, led by Dr. Jahnavi Rajgopal, Assistant professor, Department of community medicine, MIMS, Mandya, visited Mandya District Co-operative Milk Producers Societies Union Limited (MANMUL) Gejjalagere, Maddur Taluk, Mandya District. 

Clinical examination was done for 366 workers, of which 270 workers received typhoid vaccine. Of those who received vaccine, majority were food handlers.


Demographic and anthropometric details of Food handlers and other employees who came for vaccination as well as health check were registered




Assessing employees for present and past medical history and general physical examination

Single dose of 0.5 ml Typhoid vaccine was administered intramuscularly over left deltoid region under aseptic precaution to all eligible food handlers and were observed for 20 minutes for any adverse events following vaccination.

Population covered: All the food handlers at Mandya District Co-operative Milk Producers Societies Union Limited (MANMUL) Gejjalagere, Maddur Taluk, Mandya District. The food handlers those who were already vaccinated previously were excluded for vaccination, clinical examination was done for all, irrespective of their eligibility for vaccination.

Rabies Prevention and Control Training Programme

Government Hospital, Nagamangala Taluk, Mandya

 

Training Programme on Prevention and Control of Rabies was organized by District Surveillance Office, Mandya under National Rabies Control Programme in Government Hospital, Nagamangala Taluk, Mandya District on 21st Jan 2021.

Programme was coordinated by Dr. Sanjay, District Surveillance Officer, Mandya. Dr. Ramesh B. H., Taluk Health Officer, Nagamangala Taluk, Mandya. Dr. Shambavi – District Epidemiologist, Mandya.

Dr. Jahnavi Rajagopal, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, MIMS, Mandya served as a resource person in training the participants regarding Rabies control measures.

Programme mainly emphasized on Burden of Rabies Disease in India and its Pathogenesis, WHO Categorization of Animal Bite and its respective treatment methods according to WHO protocol, Local treatment of wound, Intra-dermal and Intra-muscular route of Anti-Rabies vaccine administration, Passive Immunization like eRIG, hRIG and MAB, its importance and method of administration, and Objectives and Activities done so far under National Rabies Control Programme.

Participants who benefitted from the Programme were 10 Medical Officers and 25 ANMs from various Health Centers and Sub-Centers of Nagamangala Taluk.

Programme was coordinated by Dr. Sanjay, District Surveillance Officer, Mandya. Dr. Ashalatha, Administrative Medical Officer, Gurushanthappa Government Hospital, Maddur. Dr. Shambavi – District Epidemiologist, Mandya.

Dr. Jahnavi Rajagopal, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, MIMS, Mandya served as a resource person in training the participants regarding Rabies control and preventive measures.

HYPERTENSION AND DIABETES MELLITUS DETECTION CAMP - 2020

Report

Hypertension(HTN) and Diabetes Mellitus(DM) Detection Camp was organized by Department of Community Medicine, Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, Mandya, in association with IMA, Mandya.

Venue: Govt. Higher Primary School, Cheeranahalli, Mandya Tq, Mandya, Karnataka. The programme was conducted on 20th November 2020 from 10.00 AM to 01.00 PM. 

Team of Community Medicine staff, tutors, postgraduate students, and nursing staff, led Dr. Vinay. M, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, MIMS visited Cheeranahalli, where the Health Camp was organized in Govt. Higher Primary School.

Population covered: Residents of Cheeranahalli and nearby villages.

Preliminary data of the patient is first taken then Present complaints, past history, general physical examination, blood pressure and Random Blood Sugar Measurement along with systemic examination done to detect New Cases of Hypertension and Diabetes along with Patient compliance for medication who are previously detected with HTN and DM and on Medication. As many as 50-60 people have availed the benefit of Health Camp. Patients have been prescribed with Medications and few referred to District Hospital, Mandy for further Evaluation and Management.

TYPHOID VACCINATION PROGRAMME 2020 - MANMUL

TYPHOID VACCINATION PROGRAMME - 2020

 

Typhoid vaccination programme was organized by Department of Community Medicine, Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, Mandya.

Venue: Mandya District Co-Operative Milk Producers Societies Union Limited (MANMUL) Gejjalagere, Maddur Tq, Mandya district. The programme was conducted form 18th November to 19th November 2020 for 2 days.  



Team of Community Medicine staff, tutors, postgraduate students, interns and nursing staff, led by Dr. P Subhas Babu, associate professor, Department of community medicine, MIMS and Dr. Jahnavi Rajagopal, assistant professor, Department of community medicine, MIMS, Mandya, visited Mandya District Co-Operative Milk Producers Societies Union Limited Gejjalagere, Maddur Tq, Mandya district. Clinical examination was done on 310 workers. Typhoid vaccination was given for 204 workers out of 310 workers.

Systemic examination for eligibility and typhoid vaccination for all food handlers

 



Intramuscular Typhoid Vaccine was administered with aseptic precaution to all the eligible food Handlers and was observed for 20 minutes to watch for any adverse reaction. No adverse events was noticed in persons who received vaccine.

Population covered: All the food handlers at Mandya District Co-Operative Milk Producers Societies Union Limited Gejjalagere, Maddur tq, Mandya district. The food handlers those were already vaccinated in previous year are excluded since they are protected from typhoid fever, but clinical examination was done for them also.
