PG ORIENTATION PROGRAM AND SYNOPSIS PREPARATION
ORGANIZED BY MEDICAL EDUCATIONAL UNIT DEPARTMENT OF
COMMUNITY MEDICINE
Workshop on Post Graduation orientation and Synopsis writing
was organized on 17th and 18th November 2023 by the department of Community
Medicine,MIMS Mandya for the 1st year post graduate students of batch 2023.
Venue: 3rd floor lecture hall, MIMS Mandya, Karnataka
DAY 1
The workshop started as the MC introduced Dr Subhas who
oriented the new post graduate students regarding the Legal Implications of
Medical Documentation which helps us to avoid the misundersatndings and
confusion that can lead to costly delays and errors
Next Dr Shanmukhappa who oriented the new post graduate
students regarding the academic rules and regulations which they have to follow
for the next 3 years such the objectives and components of being a PG students
and criteria's to be met to be eligible to write the examination
Next Dr Sanjeev Kumar was introduced to talk about how to
give an effective presentation during their seminars these included from the
way to speak to the steps to be followed while making a ppt.
Later Dr Shashikala L took the stage while giving a talk on
how to present an effective journal club. Which started from how to select a
good article for your JC with what objectives a person should have in mind
while selecting his/her article from a journal and various tricks to be applied
while presenting one.
This was followed by taking a group photo of all the
participants.
Next the sessions continued with Dr Lakshmi taking the stage
with him enlightening the young minds on how to take a class to their students
through a pedagogy session
The afternoon session started as Dr Jhanavi told how to
select a study and how to frame the objectives for it
From there Dr Siddalingappa Hugar took a session on how to
write a review of literature, the tricks to be followed while writing it and
the common mistakes made by students.
DAY 2
And at last Dr Subhas spoke about the study design and the
study period giving to the students to finish their thesis work
Next with Dr Manuja explaining the students on how to
calculate a sample size and the various sampling methods used for their thesis
Later Dr Poornima S took a session on inclusion and
exclusion criteria's and the various mistakes what a student does while working
on his/her synopsis and also spoke about on how data is collected for their
particular topics
This was followed by session on data analysis and data entry
by Mr Nagaraj Goud where he mentioned the various applications and appropriate
techniques to be used in their synopsis
The session started
with Dr Vinay enlightening the students on how to write the references in
Vancouver style and also spoke about
what has to mentioned in an informed consent and how an consent should be taken
and also regarding the ethical issues dealt with while doing a research and
also mentioned about proforma
And finally the workshop ended with the valedictory ceremony

The session aimed to equip healthcare
professionals especially Post graduate students with the latest information and
developments in the field of tuberculosis management. A total of 85 first year
post graduate students and 16 other participants attended the CME

Research and Training Basaveshwara Medical College & Hospital, Chitradurga
The CME began with history and organogram of NTEP,
following that we had sessions regarding treatment and diagnostic procedures in
TB, adverse events in management, progress of Tb elimination in India and ended
with the role of Artificial Intelligence tools as an AID towards END TB.

Then the inauguration function began with the welcome speech

eco-friendly initiative which was done jointly by Dr B G Mahendra, director,MIMS,
Dr.Tamanna, Principal, MIMS, Mandya, Dr Shanmukhappa, Academic Registrar, MIMS,
Mandya, Dr Harish B R, Professor and Head of Department of community medicine,
MIMS, Mandya, Dr Vinay M, Associate professor, department of community
medicine, MIMS, Mandya, and Dr Shashikala, Associate professor, department of
physiology, MIMS, Mandya, . The dignitaries on the dias also shared their vast
experiences in the field of research. Finally, the inauguration ended with the
delivery of vote of thanks by Dr. Vinay, Associate Professor, MIMS, Mandya.

Community psychiatry programme
Community psychiatry programme conducted at balmandhir , marigowda layout and balika mandir, kalahalli regarding mental well being and substance abuse by Dr Bindhiya, awareness regarding menstrual hygiene and personal hygiene were also delivered
